Dermal Fillers in Filey, Yorkshire
Lip, Cheek & Wrinkle Fillers by Sarah Belle
If you’re thinking about dermal fillers, you’re in the right place. My clinic in Filey supports people across Scarborough, Bridlington, and the Yorkshire coast to feel more confident in their skin. Dermal fillers can help you look refreshed, softened, and naturally uplifted without surgery.
What Can Dermal Fillers Do for You?
I use dermal fillers in various ways, depending on what you want and what your skin needs:
-
Smooth out wrinkles and folds
e.g. nasolabial lines (nose-to-mouth), marionette lines (corners of the mouth) or smile lines. -
Restore volume
cheeks and chin. As we age, facial fat and collagen diminish, and fillers can help bring some of that back. -
Enhance lips
define the shape, add natural fullness, correct slight asymmetry. -
Contouring & defining facial features
jawline, chin, cheekbones. -
Improve facial symmetry
sometimes one side has lost more volume than another; fillers can help balance things out.
What to Expect: Process & Aftercare
Here’s what working with me looks like, from consultation through healing:
Consultation & planning
We’ll talk about your goals: what you like, what you don’t, photos are helpful. I’ll assess your face shape, skin quality and suggest which filler types and amounts might work best.
Treatment day
A numbing cream (or anaesthetic where appropriate) is applied to minimise discomfort. I use precise injectable techniques to place filler where you’ll get the most natural lift without looking overdone.
Immediately after
You might have redness, some swelling or mild bruising; these settle in a few days. I’ll give you clear aftercare instructions.
Healing period & follow up
Avoid intense heat and heavy exercise for 48 hrs. Use gentle skincare. After about two weeks we’ll check the result together and discuss whether a slight adjustment or top-up is needed.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable gels, most commonly made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance your skin already contains. Because HA draws in water, it helps plump up volume and smooth out lines. To be used in cosmetic treatments, it’s been modified (cross-linked) so it holds its shape for longer.
Fillers work two ways:
- they physically fill in volume where it has been lost (cheeks, temples, lips, under-eye hollows etc.)
- they attract moisture under the skin to enhance fullness.
How Long Do Results Last?
Results aren’t permanent—but they can last many months. Depending on factors like:
- the type and brand of filler
- where it's injected
- your skin type (oily skin tends to break them down faster)
- your lifestyle, skincare, sun exposure
You can usually expect 8-18 months before needing a top-up. Some fillers in certain areas may last a little less, some a little more.
Does it hurt, and how long is the procedure?
Most people feel mild discomfort, like a pinch or pressure. Numbing cream helps a lot. Usually treatments take 45-90 minutes, depending on how many areas are treated.
Are there side effects?
Temporary: swelling, redness, maybe slight bruising. These usually settle within a few days. I’ll explain all potential risks during consultation.
How much filler will I need?
It depends on the area, how much volume loss there is, and your desired look. Many lip treatments are 1ml, cheek or contouring may require more. We’ll plan together.
When will I see the results?
Immediately after treatment you’ll notice some lift and fullness. But part of that is swelling. The more natural, settled result shows after 1-2 weeks when everything has settled.
Can I combine fillers with other treatments (e.g. anti-wrinkle/Botox)?
Yes! Often fillers are combined with anti-wrinkle injections to balance static and dynamic wrinkles. I’ll advise what works best for you.
Is there an age limit or medical condition that disqualifies filler treatments?
I assess each case individually. Some medical conditions, skin issues, pregnancy or allergies might mean we hold off or adjust. Safety first.
How to prolong the result of fillers?
Aside from having further treatments to top up the results of dermal fillers there are some other things you can do to make your results last as long as possible:
Keep out of the sun
Exposure to UV rays can break down certain types of filler so avoiding direct sun exposure and applying daily sunscreen can help them last longer (this is also good general advice for the health of your skin and preventing premature ageing).
Follow aftercare
Full aftercare can be found in the before and aftercare section however the key points to extend the life of your filler are: For the first 48 hours after treatment, stay away from excessive heat including strenuous exercise, saunas and sunbathing/sunbeds; Minimise the use or makeup for a week after treatment; Drink plenty of water.
Limit stress levels
Stress is harmful under any circumstances but it does also have an impact on your dermal filler. The body releases hormones such as cortisol when stressed. High cortisol contributes to the ageing process but also encourages your body to break down fillers. Try to find ways to manage stress and put self-care at the top of your to do list every day.
Eat healthily
A diet heavy in junk food, saturated fats and refined sugars causes internal inflammation and swelling in our bodies which will then increase the rate at which your body breaks down fillers and injectables. Eating healthy food after fillers is particularly important.
Limit exercise
Exercising regularly is generally one of the best things we can do for our mental and physical wellbeing however it can increase your metabolism which in turn increases the rate at which your body breaks down the filler. This by no means is a reason to stop exercise but it’s something to take into account with your expectations of how long your filler may last.
