General Recommendations

Book the treatment at least 3-4 weeks before important events to allow a 12-16 day review after the first appointment so more product can be added if needed.

The Day Of Treatment

Arrive at with a “clean face”—washed and without makeup.
Eat a meal an hour before, especially if you are prone to fainting (also bring a sugary fizzy drink or some fruit if prone).

Post Procedure Advice

After treatment you should start to see an improvement within 2 to 3 days, the full effect can take up to 30 days. The benefits of treatment usually last at least 3-4 months but can vary depending on your individual response.

Stay elevated – Try to keep busy after your anti wrinkle injections and avoid lying down or taking a nap for at least 4 hours. It’s important to keep your head elevated during this time to avoid putting pressure on the injected areas and prevent the Botox from migrating.

Redness – Any redness should decrease over 6/24-hour period. A clean, light make-up can be applied to cover any redness approximately 48 hours post treatment.

Swelling – do not expose the treated area to intense heat or to extreme cold for two weeks following treatment. A clean cool pack can be applied directly to the treated area. Nonprescription anti-inflammatories may prove useful in the reduction of swelling so long as you are medically suitable to take them. However, bruising may be enhanced and/or prolonged with the use of anti-inflammatories.

Bruising – injections can cause areas of bruising although this would not normally be expected to occur, the eye contour being the area at most risk. Any such bruising will be temporary. If you are taking any medication or dietary supplements that can affect platelet function and bleeding time, the severity and period of bruising can be extended. Be aware that taking aspirin or similar medication may increase the likelihood of bruising. Arnica cream and/or tablets can help to minimise and resolve bruising more quickly. Make-up can be applied to cover bruising approximately 4 hours post treatment, just not directly over the injection points.

Tenderness or discomfort at injection site for 24-72 hours following treatment – non-prescription painkillers can be taken.

It is advisable to:

  • Refrain from touching the treated areas with your hands or pressing of the injection site. This is to reduce the risk of infection and prevent moving the product.
  • Only apply makeup at least 4 hours post treatment – mineral is recommended.
  • Do not use soaps on the treated skin area until the redness subsides and where possible only use warm / tepid water and / or gentle skin cleansers for cleansing.
  • Do not scrub. Pat to dry only.
  • Refrain from intensive sun light (e.g. sunbeds and sunbathing), saunas, steam bath or strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours.
  • Avoid electrolysis, waxing, bleaching of treated area for 72 hours.

Side effects

The most common side effects of Azzalure® are headache and injection reactions e/g/ redness, swelling, irritation, rash, itching, numbness, pain, discomfort, stinging, bruising, and bleeding. Normally these reactions are mild to moderate, reversible and occur in the first week after treatment. There is also a small possibility of slight dropping of the eyelid or visual problems.

Very rarely, botulinum toxin may result in muscle weakness away from the side of injection.

If any symptoms last for more than one week or you are concerned about any symptoms you should report them to your practitioner as soon as possible. Seek urgent medical help if you have difficulties breathing, swallowing, speaking or if your face swells up.
